Focus on...... Dragonfly Dyes

A new regular feature on our blog will be a ‘Focus on’ post. We’ll be focusing on a variety of different things -  yarn, patterns, fabric, knitting, designers, crochet, workshops - and I thought we’d kick off with a close look at Dragonfly Dyes.

Now that Becky is ‘Staying At Home’, she’s going to have a lot more time to dye more wonders for us all to knit with. At the moment the shop (and website) retail some real beauties. The Luxury Aran has been a run away bestseller. Only one skien of the the hand dyed cashmere mix will make the warmest, softest hat. There’s a range of colours from including several greys ranging from Silver to a dark Charcoal, greens, reds, blues and my personal favourite, Violent Mustard.

Belle Laine is a lush 4ply/fingering weight yarn -  and I’ve used two coordinating shades to make Theme and Variation which is in Kate Davies collection, ‘The Book of Haps’. It’s a shawl I reach for over and over again for dashing out and about (well I used to when we could dash out and about). These days I throw it over my shoulders whilst I’m knitting. I chose two shades of blue - and the feel of the yarn is stunning.

One of my favourite times is when Becky reaches for the order form and says “I need to order more wool for dyeing”. I’ll read through the descriptions -  Yak, camel, silk, cashmere……… and say “oh please, try that one - no that one”. So from my pleadings we now have two luxury hand dyed ranges - Yak Singles and Angel Delightful. I have to be very restrained when the dyed results come into the shop -  but yes, I’ve definitely bought them. Currently in one of my “next to do” project bags, I have a blue medley Yak Single - that’s going to be used for a jumper. And the Angel Delightful- what can I say - it is just as its name describes. I made my mum some bed socks with that, and it was the most divine yarn to knit I have ever had on my needles.

Self Isolating, or simply Social Distancing by Staying At Home, is a fabulous opportunity to try out something new, or indulge in something you love but usually don’t have the time for. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and can’t wait to see more hand dyed loveliness emerging from Dragonfly Dye’s studio!

If you’ve tried hand dyeing we’d love to see some pictures and hear your stories so do leave some comments for us to read!

Stay safe and wishing you happy times.
