Knitting - with Rebecca Bone

Jumper in the Round - 17th January, 14th February and 14th March. 10-1pm.

A three part workshop, once monthly, to construct a jumper with a lace pattern. The garment will be knitted in the round, using circular needles, from the top down. This course is suitable for those who are novice/intermediate knitters, and are comfortable with cast on/off, knit and purl, and following a pattern. All necessary techniques will be taught.

To save time in the first class it would be beneficial if you were able to come along to store and choose your yarn before the class starts. This will also give you the time to knit your sample to check gauge in advance.

Elements covered in the course will include:

  • Using circular needles in the round.

  • Choice of yarns to achieve gauge.

  • Following graphs for lace designs.

  • Short rowing.

  • Provisional cast on.

  • Personalising design elements.

Class 1: Choosing yarn; swatching to achieve gauge; getting started in the round; following lace graphs.

Class 2: Working through lace designs; knitting main garment body; making adjustments to garment design.

Class 3: Knitting sleeves; adjusting necklines; finishing techniques.

Materials: The pattern will be provided printed and by email. You will require circular needles 60/80cm long, 4mm and 4.5mm. Also the sleeves can be worked on dpn’s or 40cm circulars, in a 4 and 4.5mm. You may need different needles to achieve tension so you may wish to bring a selection with you.

A selection of different yarns will be demonstrated in store and you will be guided to choose suitable yarn for the project.

Workshop costs: The workshop will cost £60, this will cover the three classes tuition and the pattern, and there will also be a 10% discount available to all materials purchased for the course.
